IRS Extends Form 990-T Filing Deadline: Relief for Tax-Exempt Organizations

 Extension Announcement

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced a significant extension for tax-exempt and governmental organizations filing Form 990-T. This automatic six-month extension applies to entities with unrelated business income of $1,000 or more, even if they didn't file a timely extension on Form 8868.

New Deadline and Eligibility

The new deadline for making elective payment elections on Form 990-T is now six months after the original due date. This relief covers taxable years ending between December 31, 2023, and November 30, 2024.

Electronic Filing Waiver

Additionally, the IRS has temporarily waived the electronic filing requirement, allowing paper submissions under specific conditions.
